What this panel measures

  • Testosterone — total and free where ordered
  • Estradiol — the primary active estrogen
  • Progesterone — ovulation and luteal-phase status

Why providers order it

  • Low libido, energy, or mood changes
  • Cycle irregularities, fertility evaluation, and pregnancy planning
  • Monitoring hormone-replacement therapy or hormonal contraception
  • Investigating hair loss, acne, or PMS patterns
How to prepare

Timing matters: testosterone is most accurate in the morning (before 10 AM), and progesterone is interpreted relative to your cycle day. Share your cycle day and any hormone medications with your provider.

Sex Hormone Panel: frequently asked questions

When in my cycle should I test hormones?

It depends on the question. Cycle day 3 is common for baseline fertility evaluation, while progesterone is checked around day 21 (about a week after suspected ovulation). Testosterone is best drawn in the morning. Our team can help you time the draw.

Does this panel work for both men and women?

Yes. The same hormones are measured; the reference ranges and interpretation differ by sex, and progesterone timing only applies to cycling women.

How long do hormone panel results take?

Results are typically reported within 48 hours and physician-reviewed before release.
