Heavy Metals Panel
Blood and urine toxic-element screen for lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, and more.
Blood + urine
5 days
Physician-reviewed
What this panel measures
- Blood lead — ongoing exposure and recent uptake
- Whole-blood mercury, arsenic, and cadmium
- Urine elements for clearance and chelation monitoring
Why providers order it
- Occupational exposure (construction, welding, battery work, dentistry)
- Unexplained symptoms: numbness, fatigue, cognitive changes, or chronic headaches
- Living in older homes with lead paint or old plumbing
- Monitoring chelation therapy
Avoid fish and shellfish for 48–72 hours beforehand — seafood can temporarily raise arsenic and mercury readings. Tell your provider about any supplements or herbal products.
Heavy Metals Panel: frequently asked questions
Why avoid seafood before a heavy metals test?
Fish and shellfish contain a harmless organic arsenic that standard testing cannot distinguish from toxic inorganic arsenic. Skipping seafood for 48–72 hours prevents a false alarm.
Blood or urine for metal testing?
Blood reflects recent and ongoing exposure; urine reflects what your body is clearing. Our panel can use both so your provider can see exposure and excretion together.
How long do results take?
Heavy metals results are typically reported within 5 days and physician-reviewed before release.
