What this panel measures

  • Vitamin D (25-OH) — immune, bone, and mood support
  • Vitamin B12 and folate — energy, nerve function, and methylation
  • Iron and ferritin — iron stores, not just circulating iron
  • Magnesium — involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions

Why providers order it

  • Persistent fatigue or brain fog without an obvious cause
  • Hair loss, brittle nails, or slow wound healing
  • Vegetarian and vegan diets, restrictive eating, or bariatric surgery history
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding or known absorption issues
How to prepare

A morning fasting draw gives the most accurate iron and B12 readings. Water is fine.

Micronutrient Panel: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between iron and ferritin?

Iron is the amount circulating in your blood right now; ferritin reflects the iron stored in your reserves. Ferritin drops first when your body runs low, which makes it the earlier and more sensitive marker of deficiency.

Can I just take a multivitamin instead of testing?

Testing shows what you actually lack. Some nutrients (like iron) are harmful in excess, and supplementing blindly can mask the real cause of symptoms such as fatigue, which is sometimes thyroid or hormonal rather than nutritional.

How long do micronutrient results take?

Results are typically reported within 72 hours and physician-reviewed before release.
